City Of Ashes by Cassandra Clare (book review)
Dear Reader,
Yeah, that's right- I'm continuing my pilgrimage to shadow hunter mastery. Well, I finished the second book in the mortal instruments series so whatever you wanna call that. I am really proud of myself! Every time I look at these books I get a bit of anxiety because I'm scared I will die before I finish them. They should really make a name for that, Shadowhunterfinisaphobia- there we go. New name for the blog? haha just kidding. If you have developed whiplash from the number of times I have changed the name of this blog in the last 3 years, please don't sue me- I am poor.
Anyway, It's review time baby-
So city of ashes. First off, the millions of youtube videos I watched about the shadow hunter world that said these books progress as they go along did not lie. City of bones was literal trasssshhh
compared to this next one. I think I'm gonna love these books solely because I get to see her progress as an author which is amazing. In this book, you really saw her dialogue become more varied and actually really funny. I was laughing out loud to some of it especially
“If you're texting Magnus to say 'I think ur kewl,' I'm going to kill you.”
and oh my god, when they were testing Clary's fearlessness rune of Alec (which by the way is sick and we will talk about more later) and he was about to tell his parents he and Magnus are in lurrrvvve- I was dying honestly. That scene has perfect flow and was so hilarious. Which leads me to my next point, ALEC AND MAGNUS. When do I get to read about all the inevitable snoggary we will be seeing of these too? God forbid it is all the way in the red scrolls of magic which, by the way, I already own in absolutely gorgeous sprayed edges and hardback. Why did I buy a fourteen-pound special edition of a book in a series I had, at the time, read one book of? Well, I blame the smell of new books and my bank account blames me.
I think it is fair to say I am completely dedicated to these characters now, Jace is my lover and Alec is my brother. Haha, get it, Isabelle? You're obviously new here. Seriously though, I love them all and I am so excited to read City of Glass.
So Jace and Clary's new powers, let me get one thing straight, Clary can make Runes with her mind and by doing so defeat previously unbeatable sources of EVIL and Jace can jump really high? Really, that's it? Surely not. I bet in city of glass we find out other stuff he can do because that is ridiculous.
World-changing runemaster. Jumper.
I'm sorry, no. Jace has been in this game his whole life and this is all he gets from his otherwise complete pain in the ass wicked-evil-master-mind dad? #givemyboyfriendmorecreditplease.
Speaking of relationships, Simon and Clary? Ew, every second of it made me die a little inside.
Oh yeah, almost forgot about this, Simon is a vampire now...? I was kind of confused, to be honest.
Are shadow hunters immortal? Cause Simon basically is now. Imagine if he outlives them all. That would be kinda awkward lol.
Googles being a witch and won't let me answer life's most important questions, so let's move on.
Before I go, The elephant in the room- Jace and Clary.
Hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
No way are they, siblings. I literally REFUSE to believe it. Call me stubborn, but I can't allow that. All those little moments where they were going to run away together and start their incestuous life together. Wow, when you think about how these books their kind of weird haha.
All I know is a lot is going to happen in the next book.
Until next time,
Issy
