Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass (book review)
(contains spoilers)
Dear reader,
today I'm doing another review but this one is gonna be loooooonnnnnggggggg. The reason for this is because I have so much to say about this book. I'm gonna be doing it chronologically.
So we meet Celeana in the mines. I liked that Dorian and Chaol didn't instantly pin Celeana against the wall and kiss her, I ain't about that insta-love life ๐ Then when they travel to the castle and they mention the magical trees, I loved that. I wasn't really engaged in the story until that point. Thousand-year-old enchanted mysterious forest? Count me in! After that, we meet Nehemia- who we will talk about more later- and the other competitors. Now, this was my first problem, the competitors (other than Cain) were soooo irrelevant. We never heard their back storeys, never got to know them. I didn't bother to remember their names and when they died I was like, I'm sorry who? I understand that we as the readers, kind of know from the start that Celaena is gonna win but, the story would have been so much more interesting with the competitors more involved and developed. And the competition was a little, how do I put this... boring? I wasn't bored with the book but I was definitely more interested in Celeanas love life than the life-altering competition. Which in a way is good because it means the characters are brilliant but really I should care more about the main plot than the romance subplot. So, since we're on the topic of romance *knuckle crack* I had some issues. Listen Sarah you absolute genies, you can't make your readers chose between Chaol and Dorian. It is NOT. FAIR! One page I was shipping her with D the next I was shipping her with C. I still don't know where I stand, to be honest. Hopefully, the other 7 books will help me decide. Okay so moving on, Nehemia I loved her, she was great. I loved everything about her, to be honest (spoiler for Crown of midnight ahead) I can't believe she's dead?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!? ๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ
Another thing I loved is Celaena. She is soooo kick ass and cool and pretty. Actually, I want to copy this girls review cause it made me laugh:
Meet Celaena. She’s the world’s best assassin. Or so we’re told. She’s very, very talented. Very talented. And famous. She’s also really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, *takes a deep breath* really pretty.
This is so accurate๐
Another thing I want to copy is from another review on good reads:
The real clincher is what I call the 'Candy Incident'. There's a bag of candy left on Calaena's bed with no note or anything. This is during the period where a murderer is going around killing Champions and a couple have died already. And what does the 'greatest assassin in the world do? She gobbles them up immediately, going Oh, how I adored candies!

She got it so right! ๐
So back to my POV. The villain (whoever you think it is Cain or the king. Personally I think the king) was quite good because he was very mysterious and, as we learn in Crown of midnight, has a lot of unexplored traits and storeys. I liked the ending and I loved that there are loads of questions that still need answering because it means the next books are gonna be great!๐ I mean, it doesn't mean that necessarily but I bought them all so let's hope so!
The overall rating for Throne of glass: 4.5/5
