Seven books I wish I had been assigned at school

Seven books I wish I had read at school Dear reader, Today marks 5 days before I am officially back to work. The thought of this coming year, and all it entails makes my insides want to scrunch up into shriveled origami bird and fly fly fly away. In preparation for this horrible event I read a set text called An inspector calls which, we will be studying this year- my god was I bored. Could it have been worse? Yes, yes it could. I could have had to read a 700 page auto-biography disguised as a philosophy book written a hundred years ago by a white man for my religious studies class- oh wait! God I love education. Whilst I was reading this relatively short play, I thought to myself, why this? Why out of all the books, did they pick this? I was lost for an answer, even after extensive research into the author in an effort to find some context. This then got me thinking, what would I assign a Modern-literature class in the 21 st century? This would be an opportunity to enlighte...

The Song of Achilles - review and discussion

Image
Dear reader,  I have always had an unexplained love for Greek Mythology, yet I never act much on this interest. I haven't read the Percy Jackson books or read up on the Demi-gods of the past world. However, everything I have learnt about Mythology or heard about through relations of mine that have also found the stories intriguing, I have always found highly fascinating. My interest in Religious Studies, a subject I take, tied with the pull of such a deep-rooted and strong belief system as shown in Greek history means I tend to jump at the settings of novels in battles such as Troy, the stories of Hero's such as Achilles or anywhere an anger struck God meddles in human affairs. Therefore, this book obviously caught my eye. I instantly fell in love with the writing. Highly descriptive and deeply moving, Madeline Miller tells the story of such passion from a highly intimate view point. The setting changes quite frequently throughout the small book, yet the atmosphere is highly co...

Wayward son (book review)

Image
Dear Reader, HELLO THERE- THIS IS FUTURE ISSY.  I AM SO SORRY THIS BLOG IS UNCOMPLETED BUT I READ THIS BOOK LIKE 6 MONTHSS AGO NOW AND I HAVE NOT GOT A SINGLE CLUE WHAT I WAS GONNA SAY. SO YEAH. ENJOY THIS UNFINISHED MESS. Harry Styles as Baz Pitch - doesn't get much better than that Lads😂 the reason I am writing this now and not 4 weeks ago- when I actually finished this book- is because I had to take some time to process what the fudge this book was even about. It was just so extremely random, a lot of random things happened that- this amount of time after reading- still don't really make a lot of sense. Now don't get me wrong, I did not hate Wayward Son at all. I didn't even dislike it, I was just confused? Like-why? It was a really quick read, it took me about a week, but I gotta say I wasn't that motivated to pick it up. So  I think the reason I was so confused and yes, maybe a little bit disappointed was because of Carry on right? We ...

The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo (book review)

Image
Dear reader, today I'm going to be reviewing one of my favourite books of the year, the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This is my second of Taylors novels that I have read and of course, the second one to absolutely amaze me. First off this book is glamorous af, one of the things that make it so great but of course, the leading role in this book, the star, the legend; Evelyn Hugo made this book what it was, a five star read. Without her perfect crafting, perfect character build and perfect dialogue, this book would no way have been as brilliant as it was. Evelyn Hugo, her character, her personality is the beautiful foundation, walls and pure cement that build this book. Like, if this book was a building it would be the Effiel Tower (at night of course) Because Evelyn is just that great a character. She is literally my idol. She is absolutely amazing. I Didn't mind the subplot of the interviewer, I understand that there wasn't really anot...

Red, White and Royal Blue (book review)

Dear Reader, First off, you know what a sucker I am for Gay romance, it’s actually my favourite concept to read about- in the world.   This book was so so so up my street, it’s no surprise I absolutely loved it. This is such an adorable book but it’s also got so many other characteristics that make it so good! It was such a creative idea of a prince and a first son, I’ve never read anything quite like it.   It’s also so fun and really heart-warming. In the beginning, I loved Alex’s and Henry’s late-night talks, they were absolutely hilarious. It was a perfect kindling for the flame. I was a little bit annoyed when they used that whole cliché; ‘what would you be doing right now if you weren’t super famous and rich?’ thing. But they totally made up for it when they kissed! My heart literally sawed around the galaxy when that happened.   A little further into the book Alex brought up a really good point, what are the royals last names? I googled it and its...
