Kingdom Of The Wicked by Kerri Maniscalo (book review)

Dear Reader,

Today on this fine eve I will be reviewing my most recent read, Kingdom of the Wicked.

24 hours since finishing , and my thoughts are still quite muddled to be frank. Similar to when I read an enchantment of ravens, There was something about it that kept me reading, something I was holding onto or just waiting for. And no, it wasn’t just a steamy scene between Wrath and Emilia- though I was deeply disappointed that we never got that. I was waiting for the answers to the millions of question we kept getting introduced to and left wondering about as the chapters went on and I believe I only got about 1/8 of the answers I needed.

This whole book did have a drive but it was so back and forth I kept forgetting what that drive was. Wrath was a very see through character, past a snide or funny comment here and there that made me chuckle, the man had no depth. Except for a shopping addiction that apparently didn’t apply to himself as I don’t think he wore a shirt throughout the entire book.

Every chapter ended on a really dramatic cliff hanger; ‘I walked into my bedroom, only to find something that would shock me to my last breath.’ Which would end up being like a bird on her window or some stupid shit like that. This made the actual plot twists (too which there where precious little) seem like just another over-instated-exaggerated-fainting moment, to which I would let out my very own over-instated-exaggerated-sigh and flip the page praying the pretty foil design on the cover was not the best bit about the book.

Now don’t get me wrong, there was something about this book, as I said earlier, that drew me in. I did like our main character, despite her frequent tendency to do the thing that is completely useless for her aim consequently falling in many deep holes full of Umbra demons and relying on ‘the prince’ to pull her out of it. I’ve never read a book quite like it! Yawn.

And the ending, dear God. What the hell happened. I was fine till she summoned the devil! Then I was literally just flicking through the pages, squinting at the words trying to get some sort of clue about exactly what was happening. It felt like I was dreaming it, and not in some adorable perky way, as in when you have a dream and their just seems to be these massive gaps your brain fills in for you, but is all a bit blurry.

The writing was very fast paced and enjoyable and I really liked all the Italian imagery and the references to all the delicious food. Annnd that’s all I’ve got on that front folks.

Read it if you want a book filled with mediocre sexual tension, a semi-decent murder mystery, okay action scenes with terribly described monster-demon things and sexy princes that definitely won’t call the next day.

I don’t think I’ll be reading the next one unless the reviews are twice what they are for this one. Who knows it might be Court of thorns and roses vs Court of mist and fury scenario.

Well that’s all I’ve got for this one guys,

Let me know what you’re reading at the moment, I’ve just started These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong, another fairyloot read... we shall see how well this goes haha.

Until next time my lovelies,
