A Love Letter To Lorelai (Gilmore Girls chat)
Today I will be discussing Gilmore girls. My history with the show, some characters that I love and why it plays a significant part in my childhood and teens. Yes yes, I know this is a book blog and that this isn't the content I usually post but I owe it to Lauren Grahan and Alexis Bledel.
I started watching Gilmore girls when I was around 8 or 9 with my Mum and my two older sisters. It was right after my dad left and it was our family bonding time. Every night we'd sit down with my mum's special hot chocolates and watch Rory and Lorelai go about their days after ours. Stars hollow was our small town virtual getaway after mums day at University and me and my sisters days of homework and school. My mum always said she related most to Lorelai and Lane because She had both the crazy Christian mother and the book-loving daughter. Me being the book-loving daughter of course ;) When both my two older sisters got busy with boyfriends and parties, I and my mum stayed strong to our nightly tradition and probably rewatched the whole show about 11 times. Obviously, as the boy obsessed 11-year-old I then was, the show supplied the perfect amount of celebrity crushes for me with all of Rory's gorgeous boyfriends. My friends all liked Logan but I was a Jess kind of girl from day one. Even as a grew up and decided I was way too cool to spend all my nights watching tv with my mum, and started camping out in my room and reading the hunger games trilogy for the 18th time (because that was obviously so much cooler), Gilmore girls always brought my family back together.
When I went to high school I looked at Rory starting Chilton. When my sisters went to University, they looked at Rory going to Yale. All their stories where guides to us and the show always brought us comfort and joy even though my parent's divorce and both my sisters leaving to start their new lives with their own families. It makes me smile and laugh to this day and is the ultimate rainy day show.
I really hope you can relate to this post with any show you love or that you're inspired to go watch with your family as it brought so much happiness into my home that I hope it spreads to yours.
Gilmore Girls, best enjoyed with a cup of coffee or take out.
Until next time,
Love,
Issy
