The Elite by Keira Kass (book review)

Dear reader,
Here we are! Not that long after reading the Selection, I have read The Elite. That sentence would literally mean nothing to you if you don't know me. I normally pick up the first book in a series, get super obsessed and then wait anywhere between 6 months to 4 years to read the next book. It's probably a bad habit but girl I got sh*t to read. I'm a blogger don't you know.
But something about these tacky books draws me in. You'll know if your a reader or anything like me- you naturally gravitate towards the smaller books, This isn't because we don't like big books, it's because (well in my case) I want to read as many books as possible so I can get the review up as soon as possible, and short books are obviously the easier option in that situation. But anyway, we'll talk about the size of these books later on.

First and foremost, I definitely enjoyed this book more than the first, probably because more happened but maybe because of all the drama. Who am I kidding? Of course, it was the drama. One smart thing Kass did with this book was all the little notes and easter eggs for not only the next book but the world. I felt like I was in a bloomin' Taylor Swift video. If you have no clue what I'm talking about then let's look back to when Chris and America were designing the party for the Italians and they were talking about all the things they could not include, for example, that Purple could not be used because it represented bad luck. However, in our history purple is a very regal colour and represents Royalty. This, if intentional, is kind of strange to note because the whole basis of the book is around royalty but was quite the power statement at the end of the book when America walks out of the selection wearing a very extra purple dress.

What was proven in this book? America is a huge dumb a*s. Don't try and prove me wrong! You can't. She thinks she is soooo righteous but to be honest she's just a teenage girl who ain't gonna keep your secrets. Still think I'm wrong, I'm about to bring my annotations out on you.
1- Seeing her best friend get whipped and then proceeding to be with Aspen.
2-Not even thinking about Maxons feelings when she sneaks around with her ex-boyfriend in his house
3-'I think we should eliminate the cast system' Give me a break Miss Texas
4-Not keeping any of her promises, ever
5-Bringing that diary out even though everyone made it clear to her no one was supposed to know she had it.
6-Not talking to Maxon for weeks and expecting him not to talk to anyone else, even though he's literally supposed to choose his Wife and his choice isn't talking to him
... Do I need to go on?

At this point, I don't even want America to get Maxon she doesn't deserve him, she's not in love, she basically cheated on him, lied to him, etc. With her it's like an endless cycle, Maxon tells her something very important and then this witch is like

Telling literally anyone who listens.
Maxon is the sweetest! He's gone through so much crap with his dad and he still is kind and caring to all these girls, he doesn't need America selling him out or getting him whipped by his dad every 5 minutes. I am totally rooting for Chris at this point.

Okay, *knuckle crack* let's zoom out. The rebels.
America's dad is like 99% a rebel. Like, come on. We know this.
And all these tiny little bits of world-building were getting from the Diaries and other scenes- something tells me it's all for nothing. You know what I mean? Like I know we're not going to fix the entire country in that tiny book, I don't think it's possible with all the other things we have to do in there. But Kass, feel free to prove me wrong ;).

So last thing I'm gonna mention is the size on these books, now I'm not gonna say that I would rather have one big book with these 3 stories in it but I would say that these books could have been 2 books, or we could have cut a bunch of stuff out at editing and then had one book that was about the size of crooked kingdom. The reason I wish this was the case is because other whys the books just feel like money makers. And we don't like money makers. Because we are poor haha.

I WILL be reading The one because I got this far lol.
I would rate the elite a solid 3.5 stars.
Until next time,
Issy
