Why reading slumps suck! and how to get rid of them

Dear reader,
today I will be talking about reading slums, and why I despise them!

What is a reading slump?
Basically, a reading slump is a period of time, quite like your period, where your mind won't let you read.

Every true reader has gone through one of these.
I for one have them `all the time and it is an ongoing struggle, for example, right after Christmas I read about 8 books on holiday. When I got home I just couldn't force myself to read. This lasted around 2 weeks.

These were the symptoms:

- my creative imaginations were non-existent!
-I was sad because reading makes me happy and I couldn't do it.
- I felt drained because instead of going to bed reading I was watching youtube and not getting enough sleep
-I was just a bit moody because reading makes me see the world differently and without it, I was a bit lost.

Don't get me wrong, in my reading slump, I still tried to read, at the time I was reading the miss Ps series, well at least trying to. But, I just couldn't get myself to do it.

Now I will give you tips on how to get out of a reading slump but first, I must tell you it takes time and the more you let it happen the quicker it will end. Reading slumps are basically caused by reading too much at a time and not giving your body time to process the book, they suck but there needed to get back into reading.

Tip 1:
Stop what you're reading, and start something else.
When I released I was suffering from a reading slump I stoped miss Ps and started the harry potter series. I will definitely return to the series, but it was good to let my mind return to something it already new, familiar.

Tip 2:
Except it and take a break. If you allow your mind to take a break, you may find that you return to reading quicker than if you fought against it.

Tip 3:
Read the book with audio as well. If you can't get your mind to focus on the words, having the audiobook on in the background may help.

Tip 4:
Remind yourself why you love to read, or just look up some book quotes. This always, always, always makes me want to open a book, reading slump or not!

Tip 5:
Create a reading atmosphere in your room. I did this while in my reading slump and it really worked!
Just add a few fairy lights and pillows to a boring corner. Make your self a hot chocolate and see if it helps.

Tip 6:
Go to a book shop and smell the books.
if that doesn't work you're hopeless.
I am only Joking please don't cry.

With love,
Girl with thoughts
