best books for the lead-up to christmas

Dear reader,

I as you now know I am kind of obsessed with reading, in an example, I would choose it over TV any day. I hope to one day write my own book.
I have been obsessed with reading for about 2 years now and I hope it never ends
Reading is something that not only helps us with things like grammar and spelling, it also helps us escape from the real world and go into our own little fantasy land.
That fantasy land helps us explore our emotions and relate to the characters and if it is a truly amazing book, it will take us inside the book so we can experience it.

Today, I am going to be showing you some of those amazing books that are also perfect for the lead-up to Christmas.

Number 1.
Little woman by Louisa May Alcott

Although an absolute classic it seems this book has escaped the eyes of many young girls and is very slowly being forgotten. This devastates me because this book is the best (without a doubt) I have ever read. in summary, the book is about 4 young girls (Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy) who are struggling because their farther -breadwinner- has gone away to fight the civil war leaving his 4 girls high and dry. Although they struggle with money, the girls lives are as exciting as they could possibly want as they make new friends, argue, put on wild theatricals and nurse each other through sickness and disappointment.

I would go to say this book helped me shape my personality with its whity humour yet devastating plotline.
Set on Christmas, this book is the perfect read for the exciting lead-up to Christmas.

Number 2.
Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo
thoughts with girl ratting: 4.5/5 stars

I had the pleasure of reading this book with my class in year 5. It was not only a heartbreaking and educational read, It was a damn right spectacular one too! the book is set in world war one and written in a diary entry format. The diary is written in the night before something most terrible happens to Thomas Peaceful. He reflects on his beautiful childhood with characters like Big Joe and Charlie Peaceful and more this book made me shed several sessions of tears and is right up on my re-read list. This book is beautifully crafted up and written to perfection.

I could not recommend more, for this book broke my heart, put it back together and made it grow 2 sizes.

Number 3.
A boy called Christmas by Matt Haig
thoughts with girl ratting: 5/5 stars

I read this book every single year on Christmas and to this day it is still my favourite Christmas book. I was introduced to it by a book club in primary school, at the time I was not into reading and put the book to the side but one day I was really bored so I started to read it. That was the day I fell in love with reading and Christmas. Sadly I had to give the book back to the club and I hadn't finished it yet so I was devastated. That Christmas my dad brought me a beautiful hardback copy, it may have been the best gift i have ever received. the book is about the origins of farther Christmas, a poor boy named Nicolas whos mother has passed and whose father is extremely poor. His father leaves on an exhibition to find the land of the elves and Nicolas is left alone with his evil aunt who makes him sleep out in the cold. When he can't stand it anymore he leaves on an adventure with his only friend Miika the mouse. A stunningly illustrated book with tonnes of character and lots of magic. It truly deserves a place among the greats, perfect for the holiday season.

Number 4.
A murder most unladylike by Robin Stevens
thoughts with girl ratting 4/5 stars

This book was brought to my attention when I and my mum took a trip to Rye last year, we found this little bookshop and I had a look around for some not-to-long-winded murder mysteries. The lady showed me this book. The shop had some little bean bags and pillows so I sat down and had a little read. The book is about 2 girls (Hazel Wong & Daisy wells) who form their own detective agency when a murder breaks out in Deepdean school for girls. It all starts when Hazel finds a body of one of their science teachers and rushes to tell a teacher when she returns the body is gone. The book was gripping, thrilling and a delight to read. I have put the sequels for the book on my Christmas list and am excited to see what they entail. I recommend this book to anyone seeking a little bit of fun and adventure in a book.

Number 5.
snow tales by Michael Morpurgo
thoughts with girl ratting 3.9/5 stars

this book is a series of 2 stories: the rainbow bear & the little albatross. its only 80 pages long and is very nicely illustrated by Michael Foreman.

Number 6.
the best Christmas present in the world by Michael Morpurgo
Thoughts with girl ratting: 4/5 stars

My aunt gave me this book 2 years ago and I loved it. It's only 40 pages long and is set in 1914.
The story is about world war 2 (like private peaceful on a lower level). because the book is so short I don't want to talk too much about it because it will give away the plotline. I will just say it is a great book to read when you can't sleep on Christmas morning.

That's all the books I've got today. If you have any recommendations email me!
and the bells were ringing out on Christmas day.
